This White Apron with Thin Red Borders is the official regalia worn by Freemasons who have attained the Second Degree (Fellowcraft) within the Ancient and Accepted Scottish Rite (AASR) or in aligned Craft lodges that follow traditional continental or European-style Freemasonry. Its clean and minimalist design reflects the transitional nature of the degree—symbolizing progress from moral instruction to intellectual awakening.

Design & Materials:

Apron Base:
Made from white lambskin or durable imitation leather, the body of the apron represents purity, truth, and the unblemished character expected of every initiate. The white surface also reflects the Fellowcraft’s journey through the world of knowledge and the liberal arts.

Borders:
The apron is bordered with a narrow red ribbon or piping along all edges—including the triangular flap (bib). This thin red border adds a subtle yet meaningful contrast to the white base, emphasizing restraint, balance, and the growing spiritual fire within the Fellowcraft.

Flap (Bib):
The flap is triangular, bordered in the same thin red trim, and may be left plain or optionally feature embroidered emblems depending on lodge tradition (e.g., the letter “G”, a plumb, or the Second Degree square).

Fastening:
Equipped with adjustable white waist ties or a white web belt with a metal clasp to ensure a secure and comfortable fit during lodge meetings.

Symbolism:

White Body: Represents the candidate’s continued purity and readiness to receive deeper knowledge.

Red Trim: Symbolizes zeal, devotion, and the vital energy required to ascend from physical labor (Entered Apprentice) to mental and philosophical work (Fellowcraft). The thinness of the red border denotes moderation, discipline, and refinement.

Triangle Flap: Often interpreted as a symbol of the divine or spiritual direction, guiding the Fellowcraft toward higher understanding.

Usage:

Worn by Fellowcraft Masons (2nd Degree) in:

Craft Lodges under Scottish Rite jurisdictions

Lodges following Continental European traditions

AASR Craft Masonry, especially in Latin America, Europe, and parts of Africa

It may also be used in progressive ceremonies, educational settings, or reenactments within broader Scottish Rite ritual contexts.

Dimensions:

Approx. 14 x 16 inches (standard)

Red trim typically 5–8 mm wide
