Complete Regalia Set for the Order of St. Thomas of Acon
Includes: Mantle, Tunic, Cap, Gloves, and Three Scallop Shells
Step into the chivalric tradition of the medieval Crusaders with this complete regalia set of the Masonic Order of St. Thomas of Acon. This set faithfully reflects the ceremonial attire worn by knights of this esteemed Christian Masonic Order, combining historic design with quality craftsmanship.
1. Mantle
Material: Premium white wool blend or polyester-cotton fabric, designed for comfort and draping.
Cut: Full-length, flowing mantle with open front and generous hood.
Color: Pure white, representing purity, humility, and the knightly vow of service.
Fastening: Secured at the neck with a cord or clasp, traditionally in white or red.
Emblem: A large, embroidered red cross potent (Jerusalem cross) is prominently displayed on the left breast, sometimes accompanied by a silver scallop shell above or below the cross, symbolizing pilgrimage and the Order’s ties to the Holy Land.
Optional Lining: Some variants may include a scarlet lining for higher ranks or ceremonial use.
2. Tunic
Material: Soft, breathable white cotton or poly-cotton blend.
Design: Mid-length tunic with wide sleeves, worn under the mantle.
Emblem: A smaller red cross potent is centered on the chest, carefully embroidered for symbolic prominence.
Neckline: Simple round neck or shallow V, allowing ease of wear under the mantle.
Symbolism: The tunic recalls the knightly undergarment worn beneath armor—symbolizing purity of intent and the inner moral virtues of the knight.
3. Cap
Style: Tudor-style round cap, soft and flat-topped.
Material: Rich black or navy velvet or felt.
Front Emblem: Embroidered red Jerusalem cross or scallop shell at the center front, edged in gold or silver.
Trim: Discreet band or piping may be added for rank distinction.
Significance: Represents humility, learning, and continuity with medieval ecclesiastical and knightly traditions.
4. Gloves
Material: Pure white cotton or lambskin ceremonial gloves.
Fit: Tailored fit with light elastic or button at the wrist for secure wear.
Embellishment: Plain or embroidered with a small red cross on the cuff, depending on rank or custom.
Purpose: Symbolic of clean hands and pure deeds in the service of Christ and brotherhood.
5. Three Scallop Shells
Material: Polished metal (silver, gold, or enamel finish) or high-grade resin, depending on tradition.
Placement:
One shell is worn on the mantle (usually above or beside the cross).
One on the cap (front center).
One may be worn on the tunic or as a badge or medallion on a collar.
Symbolism: The scallop shell is the ancient sign of Christian pilgrimage and of St. James. In this context, it signifies the knight’s spiritual journey, his duty to the Order, and his readiness to serve.
This regalia set is crafted with respect for the solemn heritage of the Order of St. Thomas of Acon. Whether for investiture, procession, or formal convocation, it offers both beauty and symbolic depth befitting a knight of sacred duty.
