The 14th Degree Apron, worn by those who have attained the title of Grand Elected, Perfect and Sublime Mason, represents the culmination of the Lodge of Perfection within the Ancient and Accepted Scottish Rite (AASR). As the final degree in the first series of the Scottish Rite, this apron reflects the highest moral and spiritual ideals of symbolic Masonry. It is rich in sacred geometry, divine symbolism, and the esoteric wisdom associated with the completion of the spiritual Temple.
🔷 Design & Materials:
Base:
Crafted from white lambskin or imitation leather, symbolizing purity, truth, and the perfected nature of the initiate. The smooth white field marks the final purification of the Mason’s symbolic journey through the Lodge of Perfection.
Borders:
Trimmed with a wide blue border, often in sky blue or royal blue, representing truth, celestial wisdom, and the Mason’s aspiration to ascend spiritually. Some variations may include a triple border (blue-gold-blue or blue-red-blue) to symbolize balance, strength, and beauty.
Flap (Bib):
Triangular and edged to match the apron’s main trim, the flap often features symbolic embroidery including:
A compass and square enclosing the Hebrew letter Yod (י) — a sacred symbol of the ineffable Name of God
The number 14, a delta (triangle), or an equilateral triangle with rays representing divine perfection
Apron Body Emblems:
Commonly decorated with elaborate, embroidered or painted symbols such as:
The Delta (triangle) with the Hebrew letters for the Tetragrammaton or Yod in its center
A double-headed eagle (in some jurisdictions), indicating Scottish Rite sovereignty
The Zodiac circle, sacred altar, or symbolic keystone
In some traditions, the Sun, Moon, and seven stars are used to represent cosmic illumination and divine harmony
Back Lining:
Often black, to remind the Mason of the solemnity of death and the need for humility in the face of divine truth. Some versions include a hidden pocket for ritual notes or gloves.
🔷 Symbolism:
White field: Spiritual purification and completion of the moral journey
Blue border: Heavenly truth and the perfection of divine wisdom
Yod or Tetragrammaton: The sacred, ineffable Name of God, indicating divine presence and enlightenment
Delta / Triangle: Symbol of the Deity, balance, and Masonic perfection
14° Degree Theme: The completion of Solomon’s Temple within the heart; perfection of the Mason in the image of divine law; reverence for the Most High
🧭 Degree Context – 14° Grand Elected, Perfect and Sublime Mason:
This degree concludes the Lodge of Perfection and symbolizes the Master Mason’s spiritual awakening. It emphasizes fidelity to God, perfection of character, reverence for sacred truths, and the hidden mysteries revealed only to those who seek with purity and purpose.
